Sluice’n ~ Our Services

We have a portable 12' sluice; which is an artificial channel of running water.

We'll bring the sluice to you, so there isn’t an expensive bus trip involved. We'll make it as easy as possible. The only thing we need from you is electricity. We can even bring the water if needed!

The kids can pan 6 or 7 at a time. They get a bag of mining ore and dump it into a box screen. Then they dip the box screen down in the sluice's running water and reveal translucent quartz crystals in a variety of different colors, hexagonal crystal points, striped agates, sparkling aventurine, shark's teeth (in the fossil bag), pyrite and tons of other unique treasures from around the world.

We offer four different sized bags of mining ore, which look just like a bag of dirt, but each is enriched with gemstones and minerals, or fossils. The gems are measured by weight before the dirt is added. There is a small and a large gemstone bag, an emerald & ruby bag, and a fossil bag. The large gemstone and the emerald & ruby bags have a crystal point and an arrowhead in them, guaranteed!

It takes approximately two hours for 100 kids to pan. Each kid receives an identification chart so they can see exactly what they have panned for. The chart shows pictures of the various gemstones, minerals and fossils and their specific names.

Availability

Sluice’n Around operates 7 days a week during the Spring, Summer & Fall (weather permitting). We have a broad coverage area and will travel from Warren County to Fairfax County and everywhere in between for most events.
